Making Your Favorite Southern Meals Leaner

South Your Mouth

Smothered, deep fried, and laid to the side. Stewed and barbecued. Hands down southern food can be an absolute delight to partake. Unfortunately, not everything we love to eat loves our bodies back! Southern cuisine gets a bad rap as far as healthy eats are concerned, but it doesn't have be all bad. Check out some myth busting recipes below!

Cut the Calories, Keep the Flavor

There are simple healthy swaps you can make in your southern recipes that you can carry over in your everyday cooking. Remixing your ingredients is the first step in making better choices. Choosing healthier cooking options can allow you to indulge in some of your favorite foods that you try and (lets face it) fail to crave! For example, one of the best things you can do is swap out the type of fat you cook with. Try olive and coconut oils instead of butter and shortening or you can substitute baking for deep frying.

Don't you just hate the word diet?

We do too! Lets throw it out our vocab shall we? Try out these healthy takes on fav southern dishes.
