Why are you not meditating?
Are you a stress feeder? Take a minute and ask yourself how do you deal with the trials that everyday life doles out. Are you barreling down the railroad of life like a runaway train, twisting, turning, and coming just short of skidding off the rails? Life equals stress, but it is how we deal with this stress that either adds to our feeling of inner peace or detracts from it. If you are not actively participating in some sort of daily reset for your mind you are doing your body a complete disservice.
Exploring the possibilities
Many of us are trying to achieve healthy living goals in the way we eat and work out. We strive to cut down processed foods and saturated fats, but what do we do for our minds? Think of meditation as an exercise for our brains similar to how fitness is an exercise for our bodies. The goal of meditation is to be mindful of our thoughts, improve our focus, and refine our conscience.
Learn to be still
Probably the biggest commitment to mediation is the art of learning to be still. Quieting your mind, body, and spirit is not an easy task. Humans have been conditioned to need constant stimuli and mentally be on a continuous loop computing at all times. Meditation is the exact opposite of this lifestyle. Meditation asks that we let go and spend time in the space of silence, peace, and stillness.
Where to begin
Meditation is entirely about attitude. If you perceive meditation to be a daunting task it will be exactly that. The truth of the matter is that meditation is a journey.
